Impacts of Climate Change in River Hydrology at particular reference to Upper Bheri Hydroelectric Project
Aim of the study
RECHAM Consult (Pvt.) Ltd, Putalisadak, Kathmandu has taken the responsibility of Suspended Sediment Sampling and Laboratory Analyses, Staff Gauge Installation, and Discharge Measurement of the Budhigandaki Hydroelectric Project (341 MW).
Measurement works were carried out by following standard practices in hydrology and the DHM. Area-Velocity Method was applied to measure the discharges of the River. Sediment sampling of suspended sediment by the depth integration method, the adopted procedures of suspend sediment measurement.

Budhigandaki Hydroelectric Project is missioned to be developed in Jagat Village of Gorkha District of Province-Gandaki Nepal, utilizing the flow of Budhigandaki, a major tributary of Trishuli River.
The prime objective of the study are;
- Hydrological and sediment measurement and analysis of Budigandaki rivers per requirement of Department of Electricity Development (DoED).
Scope of Work of the Consultant for Sediment Study:
- Carry out sediment sampling of suspended sediment by the depth integration method from June 2020 to September 2020 for the period of four months: two sets of samples, one at 8AM and another at 4PM shall be collected per day from the suspension bridge in Sirdibas. A set of samples shall include three individual samples by depth integrated method from three verticals (mid-section and quarter sections).
- Carry out sediment concentration analysis of all the collected samples.
- Collect two samples per week and carry out PSD analysis and mineral content analysis for four months period.
- Observe the gauge reading during the time of sediment sampling and develop sediment rating curve.
- Prepare and submit monthly sediment report with sufficient photographs and final report with sediment rating curve and other findings for the month within 14 days of the next month.
Scope of Work of the Consultant for Discharge Measurement Study:
- Arrange necessary equipment, manpower and transportation facilities for monthly discharge measurements (2 sets per month) of the BudhiGandaki River including intensive flood measurement at high flow month usually August (at least 10 sets).
- Conduct Monthly discharge measurement of BudhiGandaki River from nearby suspension bridge and Bhalu Khola from June, 2020 to May 2021.
- Prepare stage hydrographs from the gauge readings of Gauge Reader appointed by the clients (three times daily 8.00, 12.00 and 16.00 NST). Additional measurements will be taken, particularly after rainfalls and floods.
- Observe the gauge height during the discharge measurement period and develop the rating curve showing stage discharge relationship.
- Prepare and submit monthly discharge measurement report with sufficient photographs and final report with rating curve and other findings for the month within 14 days of the next month.
